The Switch: 3 Ways to Go Natural

In this installment of The Switch, we’ve found three everyday items that your body will love you for trying.

Switch: Smelly sunblock for all natural sunscreen spray

Summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean its time to put away the sunscreen. Many of us are already aware of the risks of prolonged sun exposure and have incorporated products containing SPF into our facial regimens. But what about the rest of our bodies? It would be much simpler to protect ourselves from harmful UV rays on a daily basis if there were sunscreen options that were just as lush and luxurious as those found behind the makeup counter.

Thankfully, companies like Coola, a San Diego based natural and organic suncare company, have provided ways to incorporate full-body sun protection into a simple yet luxurious routine.

Our favorite is their Sport SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray in Fresh Cucumber. According to the company, it contains only natural and/or organic ingredients, meaning no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. It has a continuous spray, so application is super simple, and it leaves behind a refreshing and delightful scent that won’t interfere with your perfume or leave other people thinking you’re on your way to the pool. With ingredients like cucumber, strawberry extract, and raspberry seed oil, who wouldn’t want to indulge in a little sun protection  every morning?

Switch: Sugary juices and sodas for fresh fruit-infused water

Let’s face it: sodas and juices, filled with added sugars, are simply not good for you. But making sure we get enough hydration on a daily basis can be so boring and bland when consuming 8 glasses or more of plain water every day. One way to make it easier is to find a way to drink more water without even noticing that you’re doing it.

Our favorite way to stay hydrated this summer has been with fresh fruit-infused water. There are pitchers and travel cups available that contain a small reservoir inside which holds fresh (or frozen) fruit and gives your water a nice natural flavor when it passes through.

Our choice is the Acquablend bottle, which comes in plenty of colors, has a wide mouth for easy drinking, and is very simple to use. According to the company, it’s BPA-free, dishwasher safe, and comes in a large 23 ounce size, so drinking just three full bottles a day will put you above the recommended daily intake of water.

Around here, we really love it with chopped fresh strawberries and filtered water. Another fun recipe to try: fresh mint, sliced limes, cucumber slices, and filtered water. Sound easy? That’s because it is. Now go get hydrated!

Switch: Junky potato chips for high protein all-natural snacks

Potato chips are delicious; there’s no way around that simple truth. The hard truth is that they are also full of fat and calories and really no good nutrients whatsoever. But when you’re in the mood for something crispy and savory, there isn’t much else that will do the trick like the crunchy goodness of a potato chip.

Enter Saffron Road’s Crunchy Chickpeas. In flavors like Korean BBQ, Chipotle, Falafel, Bombay Spice, and Wasabi, they satisfy almost any savory craving. Every single bite is crunchy and covered in flavor; no more searching around the bag for the most flavorful piece (we’ll admit we do it if you will).

They are cooked until crunchy, then covered in all natural ingredients for flavor.  For those who may be a little shy to try the other exotic flavors (which are all phenomenal), the chipotle flavor is a good place to start.

Besides flavor, Crunchy Chickpeas scores pretty high when it comes to nutrition as well. One 1 ounce serving of Crunchy Chickpeas contains 120 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 6 grams of protein vs. the average potato chip which packs 160 calories, 10 grams of fat, and only 2 grams of protein. On top of all that, they are organic and Non-GMO Project verified, so you know what you’re getting is top quality.
