Things You Never Knew About People with Red Hair

Kermit the Frog should step off the lily pad of self pity and stop croaking that, “It’s not easy being green.” Redheads dwell in a gene pool that’s far less hospitable. Sperm banks worldwide politely decline “donations” from ginger gents because the demand for their signature trait is so low. Scientists persistently produce data showing how redheads run a higher risk of developing skin cancers. The gossip media feasts on celebrities’ decisions to dye their hair red; denouncing the choice as a plea for attention. Meanwhile, the advertising industry floods our attention with an exaggerated stream of models with red hair because their rare existence – in reality – is so titillating to the eye. Some historians trace redheads’ scorn and allure back as far as the 11th Century, when Nordic Vikings pillaged the British isles. They may be dwindling in numbers, but redheads command our attention as much as the beasts of “Jurassic Park.”

RED HERRINGS

The advertising industry blatantly fosters the false impression that redheads are far more prevalent in society than they actually are. While researchers generally concur that only two percent of Americans are redheads, an extensive study conducted by Upstream Analysis showed that one-third of the 1,700 commercials aired during prime time in a five-day stretch on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox featured red-headed characters, and more than half of those ads cast redheads as the main character. The study concluded that advertisers rely on the fact that consumers tend to act on impulse when exposed to visual novelties.

CODE RED

Researchers agree that red hair is a mutation that comes from the rare MC1R pigmentation gene. And the journal LiveScience has identified five distinct health risks that those who carry the gene have in common.

1) People with red hair have twice the likelihood of developing Parkinson’s disease than their black-haired counterparts.

2) Carriers of the MC1R gene may suffer a higher rate of tooth decay and gum disease due to their lower tolerance for pain and requirements for larger doses of anesthesia at the dentist’s office.

3) Endometriosis – the painful growth of tissue outside of the uterus – afflicts women with red hair at rates of up to 30 percent more than it does other women between ages 25 to 42.

4) Lab experiments on mice bred with the MC1R gene showed a higher propensity for skin cancer.

5) One out of every 20,000 carriers of the MC1R gene is at risk of developing Congenital Melanocytic Naevi skin discolorations.

Other research indicates that as children, redheads suffer from diminished self-esteem and high rates of self-imposed isolation from their peers.

RED SCARE

While the general consensus among researchers is that redheads represent two percent of the worldwide population, there is rampant speculation over whether their genetic mutation could be wiped off the face of the earth entirely over time. Some analysts, like those at the gene-tracing firm ScotlandsDNA, say climate change could be blamed if redheads go the way of the dinosaur. Their reasoning: Global warming could drastically reduce the number of cloudy days, leaving carriers of the MC1R gene defenseless against ultra-violet sun rays over time.

RED WHINE

Ever since one of the world’s pre-eminent sperm banks Cryos International stopped accepting donations from male carriers of the MC1R gene five years ago, there’s been an outcry from redheads who resent being pushed to the fringe of desirability. Sperm suppliers reason that – with the exception of Ireland, where 10 percent of the population has red hair – the existing supply worldwide already far exceeds demand. Even in Scandinavian countries where blonde hair and blue/green eyes are most prevalent, sperm recipients show a distinct preference for genes associated with dark hair and brown eyes.

Fashion Meets Compassion: Your Guide to Cruelty-Free Clothes

If you’re like me, you absolutely adore animals. (In fact, you may even prefer them to most humans.) But the fashion industry isn’t always kind to our furry friends. Before you stock your closet with the latest cold-weather styles, you may want to take a closer look at what you’re buying. We’re making it easy to make compassionate choices with a beginner’s guide to animal-friendly style. Check out these cruelty-free clothes that are both fashionable and kind.

Go Faux: Cruelty-Free Clothes for the Season

Leather Alternatives

Each and every year, millions of cows, pigs, sheep, and goats are slaughtered by the leather industry for their skin. And while leather may look supple and expensive, vegan leather offers a more compassionate alternative with the same good looks. Opt for shoes, handbags, and accessories made with synthetic materials instead.

Sole Society Harley Front Pocket Vegan Leather Tote, $69.95
H&M Gloves, $17.99
Sole Society Vegan Bucket Bag, $32.48

Fur Alternatives

More and more retailers are banning real fur altogether, and for good reason. Animals are skinned alive for their pelts, and who could ever feel pretty wearing the product of such a barbaric practice? Fortunately, faux fur clothing is everywhere — and it’s way more affordable than real skins.

Vegan Clothes

Boston Proper Faux Fur Colorblock Jacket, $198
J.Crew Faux-Fur Leopard Vest, 128
Boston Proper Camo Faux-Fur Chubby Jacket, $198

Suede Alternatives

Why spend a fortune on weather-sensitive suede when you can rock a low-maintenance imitator for a fraction of the cost? Look for fall styles made with faux suede, microfiber, or even velvet for a luxe feel that’s better than the real thing.

Animal Friendly Fashion

H&M Block-Heeled Ankle Boots, $49.99
Boston Proper Velvet Moto Jacket, $228
H&M Imitation Suede Skirt, $24.99

Down Alternatives

Down-filled jackets don’t give geese and ducks any warm and fuzzy feelings. These designs are made by plucking the closest layer of feathers to a bird’s skin, which causes the bird excruciating pain. Oddly enough, down is less effective than its synthetic counterparts — and it’s less durable in extreme conditions. Look for padded jackets and vests that are made with synthetic down or polyester fill.

Down Alternatives

H&M Padded Jacket, $39.99
H&M Parka with Inner Jacket, $99
H&M Padded Jacket, $49.99

Wool Alternatives

A lot of people mistakenly assume that wool is derived from giving sheep routine haircuts, but that’s so far removed from the truth. Sheep need their wool coats to stay warm in frigid temperatures, and shearers are paid by volume instead of being paid hourly. As a result, sheep are routinely injured and mauled, and many die as a direct result of their grueling environments. Avoid cashmere, mohair, angora, shearling, and pashmina, and cuddle up to synthetic options like polyester fleece, cotton flannel, and acrylic knits.

Cruelty-Free Clothes

H&M Scarf, $17.99
Sole Society Fuzzy Cropped Cardigan, $74.95
Sole Society Mixed Knit Beanie w/ Faux Fur Pom, $26.95

Silk Alternatives

Parisian-inspired neck scarves are so chic — as long as they’re not cruel. Silk may seem like an innocent fabric compared to the others listed above, but its coveted fibers are obtained by boiling, steaming, or gassing live silkworms in their cocoons. Reach for synthetic alternatives like nylon, polyester, rayon, satin, and viscose chiffon instead.

5 Sports You Never Thought to Try

If you’re anything like me, variety is the spice of life, and something that isn’t challenging or engaging will quickly fail in holding your interest. This is especially tricky in finding a physical activity you love that keeps you healthy. It was five minutes after I took up running when I said, “Meh. No.” I feel your pain, and that’s why I share with you this brief list of sports you never thought to try. They’re mentally and physically tough, and they’ll keep you coming back for more.

olympic weightlifting and crossfit

Krav Maga

Krav Maga includes techniques from aikido, judo, boxing, wrestling, and more, making it an all-encompassing, constantly varied sport. It teaches you excellent self-defense while simultaneously keeping you in great shape. Anyone can find pleasure in mastering the basic movements of Krav Maga. It’s challenging and fulfilling, and you may very well find yourself hooked to it. (And if you’re a Crossfire series fan, you know that Eva Tramell took Krav Maga lessons – which means that it’s definitely cool.)

Indoor Rock Climbing

Another physically demanding workout is indoor rock climbing. With an added measure of safety and surveillance, you can really focus on your technique and progress. It takes incredible control, stamina, and efficient use of your own body strength. You make think you need to be lifting weights to get buff, but indoor rock climbing proves you have options. But, if you do prefer to pump iron, this next sport is for you.

Olympic Weightlifting

Ah, yes. My personal favorite. I started Olympic lifting more than three years ago, and I’m still in love. Progress is slow, and you really have to fight for it; but that’s what makes it so addictive — the constant fight. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you need cardio to stay lean. Olympic lifting will get you in the best shape of your life, and you’ll feel better than ever. A win win! Plus, you’ll feel like a total badass throwing a ton of weight overhead.

Barre

Barre has been picking up steam lately, and there’s a reason why. Based in dance (although this is not dance), practicing bar promises to help you build long, lean muscles, like a ballerina. Many people have claimed to notice a difference in their tone within the first week. Barre targets hard-to-reach muscles, and anyone can do it, regardless of age, weight, or experience. Much of barre consists of bodyweight exercises, but sometimes you’ll find light hand weights and resistance bands.

Dance

These girls can’t hide how much fun they’re having. If you need variety, then dance lessons could very well float your boat. Jazz, ballet, contemporary, tap, hip hop (like in the vid above) — there’s something for everyone. Learn to express yourself through the art of motion, and feel more confident in your own skin. I promise that you can have two left feet and still enjoy the benefits of dance. This former dancer of 12 years can attest to that. (Note: If you’re feeling extra spicy, look up pole dancing classes near you. Oo la la!)

Ways to Transform your Home into a B&B

Staying in another’s home is never quite as comfortable as staying in your very own. To give your company a true luxury getaway, add these unique touches to their overnight stay. Here are five ways to transform your home into a B&B for house guests.

1. Create A Sweet Suite

iStock_000066206933_Medium

The Not-So-Basic Basics

Be the best host you can be by going above and beyond fresh sheets and towels. Stock the guest suite with a radio alarm clock, a luggage rack, an iron, a night-light, plenty of available velvet hangers in the closet and an external battery pack to fuel a full day of sightseeing for those who have left their chargers behind. These are the not-so-basic basics when starting a bed and breakfast in your home.

Extra Luxuries

Make your guests feel they’ve entered a sweet suite by adding fresh flowers around the room, a few popular books, local magazines, the city’s latest Zagat guide, a side chair for reading, a soft throw for afternoon naps and a fragrant candle and matches. For the ultimate extra luxury, hang fluffy white robes (monogram optional) near the bathroom for instant guest relaxation while in the bedroom and bath.

The Spa

Create a home B&B spa with endless cotton balls and swabs in pretty containers, white slippers to match those fluffy robes and a fresh set of high-end hand soap, hand cream and body lotion. Set an inviting bath scene by adding a bath tray complete with book stand and wine holder, a nearby basket with fresh washcloths, bath salts and aromatherapy bubble bath. Be sure to stash extra toilet paper and a hair dryer in the vanity. For a final spa touch, provide a basket of travel-sized toiletries guests may have forgotten and don’t necessarily want to ask for: shampoo, conditioner, floss, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, razor, shaving cream, face wash, sunscreen and makeup remover. Now, the hard part: walk out of the room and leave it all for your guests.

2. Partially Plan Their Day

iStock_000080333087_Small

2-Hour Breakfast

Set a two-hour window for breakfast in the morning, so houseguests can rise and dine (somewhat) at their leisure. Satisfy all cravings by including morning menu options that are both carb-loaded, like homemade pancakes or your town’s best baked goods, and light and healthy including fresh berries, yogurt, granola and egg white scramble.

Happy Hour

Setting a daily happy hour time puts a smile on everyone’s face and motivates guests to rest and refresh before raising a glass to the evening ahead. Offer an hour of cocktails and a spread of various appetizers both hot and cold.

An Evening Out

Make one restaurant reservation for your guests at a popular spot in town. If they are party people, also suggest a nearby lounge for after dinner. If they aren’t interested in the cuisine or getting out and about, offer to cancel it. This way, it’s one less thing they have to figure out. Homebodies? Let them choose between relaxing for a movie night with popcorn on the couch or get fancy and host a wine tasting before dinner at your home B&B.

3. Hometown Hit List

SONY DSC

Pretend you’re a tourist in your own town and research the best things for your guests to do in the area during their stay. Be sure to gear activities to the exact crowd, customizing it based on whether you’re hosting a young couple, grandparents or a rowdy family of five. Include the best boutiques, fine dining, burger joints, off-the-beaten path neighborhoods, most photogenic places, standout museums and parks and music venues. Now, once you’ve done the legwork, leave it to them to choose the itinerary that will delight them most.

4. Play Mixologist

iStock_000062903546_Small

Stocked Options

Even if you only ever saw your old college friend guzzling no-name beer, people change and so do their drink preferences. Make sure your bar is fully stocked with the major liquors, mixers and an assortment of wines including rosé and sparkling, so everyone is cocktail content.

Shake It Up

Surprise guests by pouring them a signature hand-crafted seasonal cocktail with uniquely shaped ice cubes, fresh fruit garnish and a chic cocktail napkin underneath.

5. Midnight Snack Box

shutterstock_172911812

The Munchies

In case the midnight munchies attack, leave a snack box in the guest room with chocolate, granola bars, dried fruit, mints and gum, so overnighters won’t have to sneak out to the kitchen for a snack late at night.

Satisfy Their Thirst

A full mini bar might be a bit ridiculous in your guest room. However, an assortment of beverages at the ready is not. Stuff the snack box with bottled water, soda and seltzer, too. Then, just add clean glasses and a fresh cup of ice each evening to satisfy their thirst.

Next Day Necessities

In case your sleepover pals get a little too rowdy at night, throw some ibuprofen, Gatorade and a few packages of Emergen-C vitamin supplement packs in the snack box, too.

Whether you test out all of these home-to-B&B transformation tips or just a few for upcoming houseguests, it’s almost certain these luxuries will result in some happy campers.

WARNING: Offer these luxury upgrades only to your favorite houseguests. After feeling this spoiled, they may never leave. Also, you may have so much fun hosting that you’ll consider starting a bed and breakfast outside of your home.

What You Need to Know to Hike Colorado’s Highest Peaks

“It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.” – Sir Edmund Hillary

Experienced hikers regularly rely on trails to quench their thirst for the sensation that only true isolation in nature can provide. The rush of pushing one’s body to its physical and mental limits, and then further, is what keeps hikers, mountaineers, and climbers on the rocks. Most mountain sports offer something for all skill levels, and in a quintessential public landscape like Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, anyone can find appreciation for the elements and their place within them. Those familiar with The Centennial State know its magnum opus is the 53 peaks climbing above 14,000 feet, also known as “Fourteeners.” Home to the most fourteeners in any U.S. state, Colorado’s summit hikes range from walk-ups to strenuous technical climbs, and while some are considered “easy” compared to others, most require hitting the trail before sunrise with headlamps and a strong will in hand. For those of average fitness, hikes can take anywhere from 6 to 15 or more hours. Reaching the summit is rewarded with striking views in the company of like-minded, motivated peers, their heads literally in the clouds.

For first time fourteener hikers, most experts suggest mid-summer walk-ups like Mount Bierstadt, Lincoln, Democrat, and Grays peak. If you’re feeling strong, bagging more than one peak in a day, using interconnecting craggy saddles, is a great way to check some of these bucket listers off in a short period of time. Altitude environments are a wildlife photographer’s fantasy – rare mountain species such as marmots, pikas, and quails are quite common. The tundra up high is precious and fragile, so staying on trail and minimizing footprints is crucial. When planning your first fourteener, there are a number of safety and fitness goals to reach first.

Here are some invaluable tips and resources to get you rock-ready with a healthy respect for high altitude hikes and the otherworldly atmosphere it fosters.

What to bring

For summer hiking plans, the gear list is substantially shorter than autumn and winter excursions, so always keep in mind the season and weather. Primary gear includes a reliable hiking daypack, several liters of water (more than you think you’ll need), high protein and fatty foods, such as energy bars, chews, and salty snacks for replenishment. I’d suggest brands such as Gu and Powerbar. Jerky, trail mix, and avocados also taste sensational at the summit. Other staples are warm weather clothes for the blistery summit, as temperatures will drop drastically above treeline around 11,000 feet. A synthetic shirt, waterproof jacket, hiking pants, boots, socks, and ponchos are also necessary to keep dry and warm on all day outings, as afternoon thunderstorms happen often. Other non-negotiable gear includes a headlamp, multi-tool, map, whistle, lighter, sunscreen, toilet paper, small shovel, first aid kit, and trekking poles. Those living at low altitudes or who haven’t acclimatized should consider taking a small can of supplemental oxygen to protect against altitude sickness.

Safety

Altitude does strange and unpredictable things to the weather, and checking multiple forecasts, including the weather channel’s summit predictions, can help you avoid a disorienting white out above treeline. Just this year,  nearly a dozen people have died on Colorado’s peaks, and many more have been injured as a result of poor timing, inexperience, and/or freak accidents. Knowing what you’re in for, and never biting off more than you can chew is key to a successful and safe hike. Test your gear beforehand, hit the gym religiously to make sure your cardio and upper body strength is in “peak” shape, and watch the sky as you ascend. Dark, anvil-shaped clouds should mean an immediate turnaround. Lightning risk increases drastically on mountain hikes. Starting early, sometimes even 1 a.m., and camping at or near the trailhead will guarantee you’re down before thunderstorms usually arrive. The Rockies are bear country, and knowing what to do in the event of a bear encounter can save your life.

Learn the jargon

When reading trail specs, understanding the terminology can assist in deciding whether or not a hike is right for your skill and athletic level. A hike’s class signals its difficulty and technicality. For beginners, Class 1 means a clearly marked trail and little-to-no scrambling, or using your hands and feet to climb up or over rough or steep ground. Anything higher than a Class 2 may require special climbing gear. Talus and scree indicates small, loose rock that is difficult to navigate. Elevation gain is the sum of all the uphill segments along the trail, or how much you’ll rise in total. Treeline is where vegetation and trees stop growing, usually between 11,000 and 12,000 feet in Colorado.

Colorado hikes to try first

Easing yourself into fourteeners is the best way to prevent burnout and ensure you can finish your first few attempts. Many strenuous hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park can assist with this, but any long hike with a lot of vertical gain will do. Options include Chasm Lake, Hallett Peak, Estes Cone, Bear Peak and dozens of 13ers.

Restore Balance in Kyoto, Japan

Japan is considered one of the world’s most elegant cultural, historical, and creative hubs. Known for everything from its debonair cherry blossoms and culinary ingenuity to an embattled, complicated history, its magnetic allure makes for an easygoing but educational trip.

The country’s seventh-largest city, Kyoto, is Japan’s entertainment and lifestyle playground. Located on Japan’s island of Honshu and with a population close to 1.5 million, Kyoto’s resilience is world-renowned. Throughout the centuries, Kyoto was destroyed by dozens of natural and manmade disasters, from brutal fires to debilitating wars. Due to its historic value, the city was even spared from the atomic bomb during World War II. It’s now home to preserved temples, shrines, and priceless Asian structures found nowhere else in the world, being dubbed the “city of a thousand temples.” It’s also considered a premier fall foliage location, touting beautiful crimson and orange forests that divinely shroud constructed holy sites. While anyone could get lost in all Kyoto has to offer, first-time visitors should take time to check out some of the city’s most memorable sites.

Nijo Castle

nijo castle kyoto

Built in 1603 and used as an imperial palace for hundreds of years, Nijo Castle was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 1994. This flatland castle is considered Japan’s best example of Feudal Era architecture. It was constructed for Japan’s militant shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and used as his Kyoto office and residence until the Tokugawa Shogunate fell in 1867. Castle grounds are surrounded by stone walls and deep moats, which served as a defense during the city’s most tumultuous years . Home to more than 400 cherry trees and a modish plum orchard typically used for traditional tea ceremonies, the castle and surrounding palace estate features Kyoto’s most pacific views.

Nishiki Market

nishiki market kyoto japan
Illuminated paper lanterns hanging above the entrance of Nishiki Market in Kyoto, Japan

Located in the heart of downtown and colloquially known as “Kyoto’s pantry,” Nishiki Market is unrivaled in the city’s traditional food market. Being Kyoto’s largest open-air market, the variety of fresh Japanese cuisine and ingredients are omnipresent. From fresh tofu, fish, and vegetables to wagashi (sweets) and tea, Nishiki caters to all palettes. The market’s breezy aesthetic welcomes both tourists looking grab a bite at one of many sit-down restaurants, or locals picking up a few homegrown basics for an evening dish.

Nanzenji Temple

nanzenji temple kyoto japan
Sanmon gate at Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto, Japan

On the helm of the prolific Higashiyama mountains is one of Japan’s most coveted and respected temples. It is the leading school within the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. The grounds were once home to an emperor’s self-commissioned retirement chateau in the 13th century, all of which were leveled during the Muromachi Period’s civil wars. Although most of the active lecture halls in Nanzenji are off limits to the public, visitors are welcome to explore the temple’s famous brick aqueduct, as well as the many sub-temples including Nanzen-in Temple, where you’ll find the mausoleum of Emperor Kameyama and a memorial garden in his honor.

Fushimi Sake District

fushimi inari torii gates kyoto japan
Torii Gates Path of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto’s premier Sake distribution center offers dozens of elaborate brewery buildings and stunning tree-plaited canals — and don’t forget fresh sake from the source. Fushimi, or “underground water,” is most famous for its mellow, delicate springs ideal for sake production. Believed to be a particularly delicious complement to traditional Kyoto dishes, the Japanese rice wine made in Fushimi is famed not only for its undiluted taste, but its support of local business and the Kyoto way of life. After trying it for yourself,  head over to the Fushimi-Inari-Taisha Shrine, a tribute to, fittingly, the god of rice. The walk to the shrine’s peak yields unparalleled views of Kyoto and its neighboring mountain regions.

How a Cat Can Actually Enhance Your Life

Since the dawn of our existence, we’ve needed companions; both of the human kind, but also in the form of other species. It might seem wholly unnatural for humans – who are arguably at the very top of the food chain – to take in and care for another animal with little or no reward for doing so. Yet, defying all logic, it’s something we’ve done era after era.

While there is a broad array of animals we’ve domesticated and dubbed “pets,” there’s one that we’re utterly obsessed with like no other. You only have to take a quick look at your Facebook timeline, Instagram or, of course, whatever is trending on YouTube, to see that cats are the current reigning king of pets. The internet generation is completely besotted with these creatures, but they could be helping us more than we know. In fact, there’s quite a lot of evidence to suggest that our feline friends actually enhance our lives.

Caring for another being gives you routine

If you’re lucky enough to have a cat already, you’ll know two things to be true. First of all, these animals are simply adorable – they’re loving, beautiful creatures. Secondly, they’re a whole lot of work. You need to buy pet insurance, ensure that they have a reputable vet, feed them, play with them, socialize them and generally do all you can to make sure that they are healthy, content creatures. It might sound like a formidable list of chores, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

cat on woman shoulder
“Everything’s going to be OK, human.”

You see, caring for another being is one of the most mentally healthy things you can do for yourself.  In fact, one particular 2009 study found that looking after an animal can actually help lower your daily stress levels. Many studies have suggested that the stronger the bond between you and your pet is, the better the effect will be on your mental wellness. In reality, having to get up and feed your feline on a Sunday morning might feel like a dull task, but it gives you a sense of routine and purpose. That responsibility of looking after an animal that is solely dependent on you is at once terrifying and fulfilling.

Cats give you “meaningful social support”

From the moment that we’re self-aware, we’re continually reaching for a sense of belonging in our lives; something that confirms we’re on the right track, with the right people and doing the right things. That’s where social support comes into the equation. Social support means your immediate circle of friends, family, and acquaintances – the people who make you, you. It’s a term that’s thrown around a whole lot in psychology; the main theory is that having a proper support system around you contributes to your general well-being and happiness.

woman plays with cat
“Yes, Karen, that is indeed my nose.”

So, what has this got to do with cats? Well, it may surprise you to learn that our cute little kittens could actually act as a form of social support as well. A 2011 study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology suggested that pet owners have a better level of well-being when their pets met their “social needs.” Further still, there was no competition between the social support pets gave and that humans gave. In simple terms, having a pet did not turn people into isolated animal lovers – instead, it helped them in all areas of their social life. That blows the crazy cat lady stereotype way out of the water – having a cat may actually help you perfect your social skills.

You really have to earn their trust and love

As nice as dogs are, they will ultimately give their unbridled affection to anyone who feeds them on a regular basis. While that may seem like an easy option (after all, who wouldn’t want unconditional love?), there’s something more satisfying about having to earn that right. Cats are much more picky about who they warm to – meaning that you have to work hard to prove your worth to them. It’s not merely about feeding them and looking after their health; it’s about building a genuine relationship with them over time. While it may be difficult to begin with, once you get that first purr of recognition, it’s the greatest possible feeling.

“Did somebody say ‘treat’?”

In short, if you are pondering whether getting a kitty is right for you and you have the means (and time) to care for an animal, there are truly endless benefits to doing so. These little felines are so much more than merely the hilarious stars of viral videos – they are true companions, and there are few things in this world greater than true companionship.
