Dressing for fall is simultaneously the most fun and the hardest endeavor – the struggle between staying warm, but not too hot is difficult, especially when it comes to getting dressed for a workout. We’ve put together some leggings, tees, sweaters, jackets, and shoes you can rock all autumn long while staying the perfect temperature.




Say “goodbye” to your favorite workout shorts for now (I’m very happy about this because I prefer leggings in general) and pick yourself up some leggings. They’re great because they’re full coverage and come in all different materials so you can pick up a few pairs and wear them for various temperatures and activities. During a hot yoga session or a warmer fall run outside you can go with a light material legging, or on a cool day opt for a double-lined legging to stay warm. You can also use this season change as a reason to stock up on new leggings in fall colors, like army green, grey, burgundy, and nude!

Lightweight Tees

T-Shirts are essential when it comes to dressing for fall. They’re cool enough to wear on their own during a workout but they’re thin enough that they can be layered with a warm sweater for those cooler days on the way to the gym or the studio, or even on an outdoor run. I like to wear sassy graphic tees when I work out (like the “I’d Rather Be Sleeping” tee above) to really show off my horrible fun personality.  They’re also usually super inexpensive and can be found just about anywhere!

Sweatshirts and Hoodies for Layering


Sweatshirts and hoodies are a layering item you don’t want to forget on a cool fall day. They can be worn on their own or over another piece. Cropped sweatshirts are especially cute during this transitional season because they look summer- and winter-appropriate simultaneously. You don’t need to buy a specific exercise brand of sweater either; any sweater will work for your workout as long as it’s warm.

On an especially cool day, you may need to consider layering up with a jacket or vest. Select one that’s lightweight and can easily be stored in your exercise bag as a bonus. Bomber jackets are on-trend right now, so it shouldn’t be hard to find the perfect jacket to add to your workout wardrobe.

The little perforations that make our feet stay cool in the summer are the features that will make us freeze to death in the fall and winter, because if your feet are cold, so is your entire body, so you might want to grab a new pair of sneakers. And hey, I’ll take any excuse to go out and buy a new pair of shoes. While browsing the Nike website, I discovered that they have a filter you can select to look at shoes that are built for the cold weather, with 35 different pairs to choose from, so go nuts!
